Events & Venues in Wales
WALES knows how to put on a show.
From packed international sporting occasions and huge stadium concerts to agricultural shows, cultural celebrations, food festivals, theatre, comedy, live music and community events, there is rarely a shortage of reasons to get out and experience something different.

Events & Venues in Wales brings together many of those experiences under one Ewegottalove roof — highlighting the major events that put Wales on the map, the venues that regularly welcome thousands of visitors, and some of the smaller places and occasions that give different parts of the country their own distinctive character.
This is not intended to become an exhaustive daily events directory. Instead, the section provides a gateway to some of the best-known events and venues across Wales, while the Ewegottalove Blog keeps pace with what is happening now, what is coming up next and those events that deserve a closer look.
Major Events in Wales
Some occasions become part of the Welsh calendar.
The National Eisteddfod of Wales celebrates Welsh language, music, literature and culture, moving to a different part of the country each year, while the Royal Welsh Show brings farming, food, rural life and entertainment together on a huge scale.
Wales also regularly stages major international sport, large-scale concerts and significant one-off events capable of attracting visitors from across Britain and beyond.
International rugby and football can transform Cardiff and other host locations into seas of colour. Major artists fill stadiums and arenas. Festivals take over towns, parks, castles and waterfronts.
Then there are events that have become closely associated with particular places — occasions that help define their communities as much as the venues themselves.
Ewegottalove will highlight the biggest of these while also keeping an eye open for something a little different.

Sport & Sporting Events
Welsh sport extends far beyond what happens on the field of play.
The atmosphere around a major event can begin hours before kick-off, tip-off, face-off or the starting gun and continue long afterwards.
International rugby and football, professional club sport, cricket, ice hockey, horse racing, athletics, golf, cycling, motorsport and major participation events all form part of the Welsh sporting calendar.
This section will concentrate initially on Wales’ leading teams, flagship sporting events and principal spectator venues rather than attempting to cover every fixture or every club.
That more selective approach allows us to concentrate on the occasions capable of bringing communities together, attracting travelling supporters and introducing visitors to another part of Wales.
Our regular Blog coverage will provide the more immediate previews, ticket information, travel advice, event updates and talking points.

Entertainment & Live Performance
From historic theatres to modern arenas, intimate music venues to large concert halls, Wales offers entertainment on almost every scale.
The country’s theatres host West End touring productions, drama, ballet, opera, musicals, children’s entertainment and comedy. Arenas and concert venues welcome major international performers, while smaller independent spaces provide platforms for emerging artists, specialist music and alternative entertainment.
Cinemas also remain important gathering places, particularly when festivals, special screenings and locally connected productions provide something beyond the normal programme.
Comedy clubs, arts centres and multi-purpose cultural venues add still more variety.
Some are nationally known. Others are deeply rooted in their own towns and communities.
Both have a place here.

Festivals & Outdoor Events
Wales provides no shortage of interesting backdrops.
Events take place beside the sea, in town centres, country parks, castle grounds, showgrounds and rural communities.
Food and drink festivals showcase Welsh producers and regional specialities. Music festivals range from large outdoor gatherings to events built around individual towns and venues. Comedy, literature, arts and cultural festivals bring another dimension.

There are agricultural shows, Christmas markets, summer celebrations, heritage events, sporting festivals and a growing number of occasions built around particular interests.
Many of these events also provide a compelling reason to visit somewhere people might not otherwise have considered.
That makes them especially interesting to Ewegottalove.

Indoor Events, Exhibitions & Specialist Interests
Not every major event needs a stadium.
Convention centres, exhibition halls, hotels, leisure centres, universities and specialist venues across Wales host everything from business exhibitions and collectors’ fairs to gaming events, comic conventions, craft shows and specialist markets.
Pop culture is becoming an increasingly important part of the events landscape, with comic conventions, card shows, gaming gatherings, film events and other fan-led occasions attracting audiences of all ages.
These events can sometimes sit below the radar of traditional tourism coverage despite attracting passionate and often highly mobile audiences.
We intend to keep an eye on them.

Culture & Community
Some of the most memorable events in Wales are neither enormous nor internationally famous.
Carnivals, local eisteddfodau, village shows, Christmas celebrations, charity events, heritage weekends, community festivals and commemorations remain an important part of Welsh life.
Ewegottalove cannot hope to catalogue every local event across the country — nor should it try.
But when something has an especially interesting history, distinctive tradition, unusual setting or strong community story, it may well find its way onto these pages or into the Ewegottalove Blog.
Sometimes the smallest event provides the best story.

Conferences, Meetings & Special Occasions
Wales also offers an increasingly varied choice of locations for conferences, exhibitions, meetings, awards evenings, weddings and major private occasions.
Purpose-built conference facilities sit alongside hotels, universities, sporting venues, country houses, castles and cultural buildings capable of hosting events of very different sizes.
For businesses and organisations considering Wales as a destination, this section will gradually highlight some of the locations capable of providing much more than simply a meeting room.
A memorable venue can become part of the event itself.

Iconic Welsh Venues
Some Welsh venues deserve attention regardless of what happens to be taking place there this week.
Stadiums, theatres, arenas, showgrounds, arts centres, castles and other landmark locations have hosted memorable occasions and continue to play an important part in Welsh cultural and sporting life.
Over time, Ewegottalove will build profiles of selected venues — looking at their history, their role today, what visitors can expect and the events with which they have become associated.
The intention is not to list every hall or function room in Wales, but to concentrate initially on venues with a particularly strong story, important programme or regional significance.

Events & Venues Around Wales
The events landscape varies enormously from one part of Wales to another.
The largest cities naturally provide the greatest concentration of stadiums, theatres, arenas and large-scale entertainment, but some of Wales’ most distinctive events take place in much smaller towns and villages.
For that reason, Events & Venues will gradually be explored on a regional basis.
North Wales combines major arts and entertainment venues with international cultural events, coastal locations, sporting occasions and festivals.
Mid Wales brings together showgrounds, arts centres, agricultural traditions, literary and music festivals, outdoor events and distinctive celebrations spread across a large rural area, including Aberystwyth and Ceredigion.
South West Wales combines Swansea and its major venues with sporting occasions, live entertainment, festivals, agricultural events and the distinctive coastal event scene of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
South East Wales includes Wales’ largest concentration of major stadium events, international sport, arenas, theatres, exhibitions and concerts, while also extending through Newport, the Valleys, Monmouthshire and the Vale of Glamorgan.
These regional pages will grow gradually rather than attempting to catalogue everything from day one.
Events & Venues, region by region: North | Mid | South West | South East.

Did Ewe Know?
Wales’ biggest events do not always take place in its biggest cities. Some internationally recognised festivals, sporting occasions and cultural celebrations have grown from towns and communities whose populations are smaller than the crowds they can attract.
That is one of the things that makes the Welsh events calendar so interesting.
