Welsh Mountain Zoo

THE Welsh Mountain Zoo is also known as the National Zoo of Wales, the oldest and most established Zoo in the country, having been born out of a small, family-run business by the Jackson family in 1963.

Set on one of the most picturesque and unique landscapes for any UK Zoo, the Welsh Mountain Zoo occupies around 37 acres of lush, green landscape overlooking Colwyn Bay and the Carneddau mountains in north Wales.

With around 100 species housed in its wonderful collection, to date the zoo has welcomed over eight million visitors through its gates.

Conservation remains at the heart of the zoo’s ethos, and the future survival of animals and their habitats continues to drive them ever forward.

Whilst wanting visitors to experience and enjoy everything the zoo has to offer, those in charge also want to share and raise awareness of critical messages surrounding wildlife, the environment and the impact our actions have on the wider world.

The Welsh Mountain Zoo is part of the National Zoological Society of Wales, a non-profit making organisation. Its aim is to inform and educate people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds about wildlife and conservation.

Experiences on offer at the site include being keeper for the day. For a whole day you can take a step inside the shoes of a zookeeper, do and experience everything that the keepers do on a daily basis.

And if you’ve ever fancied feeding fish to a penguin, making mischief with a meerkat or having lunch with a big cat, you can make your day even more special and step inside an animal encounter.
