LLANFAIRFECHAN GOLF CLUB
The club as it exists now opened in 1972. It is quite difficult to imagine that five or six fields, separated by stone walls about five feet high, could be turned in to a golf course. So the JCBs and bulldozers were brought in and large trenches were excavated and the walls were pushed into these and the stones and boulders buried.  Many of the new members had not played golf before, so lessons were arranged to be held in the Town Hall during the winter months. Eventually, all nine greens were built, but there was one more serious obstacle to come. Shell Oil were committed to lay pipeline from Anglesey to Ellesmere Port. An area 20 feet wide and six feet deep was excavated, through the car park, in front of the clubhouse and across the third and fourth fairways. The only consolation to this major disruption was that Shell paid the club a substantial sum of money in compensation. The last greens built were the 10th, 15th and 18th. It was felt that these made the course a more interesting and challenging.

The front-nine is open pasture land, the back-nine has 6,000 trees planted to define the fairways and make it a more challenging course. Silver Birch is 3,235 yards long overall and excellent for improving the short game.
