WHY ARE CARDIFF CITY STILL WAITING FOR THEIR FIRST WIN?
That is becoming the big question.
Cardiff have drawn four of their six Championship matches, losing the other two, since winning promotion back to the second tier.
Their latest 1-1 draw against Stoke was another frustrating example. The Bluebirds created plenty of attacking opportunities but again failed to turn an encouraging performance into victory.
Barry-Murphy has made clear that he is not satisfied simply with positive statistics or good passages of football.
His message ahead of Bolton is straightforward: Cardiff must keep improving the parts of their game that ultimately decide matches.

ARE CARDIFF CITY THE CHAMPIONSHIP’S DRAW KINGS?
They certainly have a claim.
Four draws from the first six league fixtures means two-thirds of Cardiff’s Championship games have finished level.
That has included entertaining 2-2 draws against Derby County and Sheffield United, the dramatic derby with Wrexham and Tuesday’s 1-1 result against Stoke.
The problem, of course, is that one point at a time does not move a team very quickly up the Championship table.

HOW HAVE BOLTON STARTED THE SEASON?
Bolton have had difficulties of their own.
They began their Championship campaign with victory over Preston North End but have since endured a difficult run and go into Saturday’s fixture just below Cardiff in the table.
Their most recent outing was a spirited 3-2 home defeat against West Ham United, when Jarrod Bowen’s second goal eventually settled an entertaining contest.
That loss followed defeats against Lincoln City, Sheffield United and Millwall, meaning Bolton themselves are desperate to stop a run of four successive league defeats.
So this is a game between two promoted clubs who could both badly use a result.

WHAT HAPPENED WHEN CARDIFF LAST PLAYED BOLTON?
The clubs know each other well from last season’s League One promotion campaign.
Cardiff lost 1-0 at Bolton in October 2025, conceding a heartbreaking winner in the final moments of stoppage time.
But the Bluebirds gained revenge at Cardiff City Stadium in April, winning 2-0 through goals from Omari Kellyman and Chris Willock on their way towards promotion.

There are certainly reasons for optimism.
