Halloween in South East Wales 2026

IF you’re looking for sheer variety, South East Wales is likely to be one of the busiest parts of Wales this Halloween.

Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, Newport, Monmouthshire and the south Wales valleys bring together major visitor attractions, castles, theatres, entertainment venues, farms, shopping areas, nightlife and hundreds of community activities.

That means Halloween can range from a gentle pumpkin trail with the children to something considerably more frightening after dark.

Throughout October, Ewegottalove will be bringing those possibilities together.

Featured Halloween Events

This section will highlight some of the major Halloween attractions and particularly interesting events taking place across South East Wales.

We will continue adding events as October progresses.

HALLOWEEN AT CAERPHILLY CASTLE (24 October–1 November): Caerphilly Castle goes big on Halloween with nine days of family activities. A children’s quest runs throughout the school holiday, alongside changing activities including gruesome medieval medicine, crafts, bubbles and face painting.

CASTELL COCH’S CREEPY QUEST (24 October–1 November): One of Wales’ most fairy-tale castles provides an appropriately atmospheric setting for a Halloween half-term quest, with separate evening Halloween tours following over the Halloween weekend.

HALLOWEEN AT CHEPSTOW CASTLE (22 October–1 November): Chepstow has one of the most varied Cadw programmes this Halloween. It begins with a Ghost Tour on 22 October, followed by mini-pumpkin decorating throughout half-term and an evening of ghost stories on 29 October.

MONSTROUS MYTHS – CAERLEON ROMAN BATHS (24 October–1 November): The Roman Baths at Caerleon take a suitably monstrous approach to half-term, bringing myths and Halloween atmosphere into one of South Wales’ great Roman heritage sites.

CALAN GAEAF AT DYFFRYN GARDENS (23 October–1 November): Dyffryn Gardens near Cardiff explores Welsh folklore through the Tylwyth Teg. Fairy doors, giant mushrooms, stories and games are scattered through the autumn gardens in a family trail inspired by Calan Gaeaf and the traditional belief that the boundary with the Otherworld becomes thinner at this time of year.

PICK YOUR OWN PUMPKINS – FORAGE FARM, COWBRIDGE (3–31 October): Visitors can take a tractor trailer to the pumpkin patch, choose from thousands of home-grown pumpkins and explore a maize maze alongside farm animals, seasonal food and entertainment. As Halloween approaches, the programme also includes twilight experiences with live actors and a scare maze.

HALLOWEEN FUN AT BLAENAVON IRONWORKS (29–31 October): Welsh legends, folklore and ghost stories take centre stage at Blaenavon Ironworks. Storytelling is accompanied by creative crafts, making this particularly appropriate for the wider Ewegottalove theme of exploring Wales’ own Halloween traditions.

ZIP WORLD TOWER – ABERDARE: Zip World Tower takes the scarier route during Halloween, with after-dark attractions including the Terror Coaster, Cursed Climber and Fear Flyer, while less adventurous visitors can watch the action with food and Halloween drinks.

Halloween in Our Towns & Communities

This is where our guide can become genuinely local.

We want to hear about events in places such as Barry, Penarth, Cowbridge, Caerphilly, Pontypridd, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and communities throughout the region.

A decorated shop window, community Halloween trail or local children’s party can be just as interesting to readers as a major attraction.
