Something Spooky is Stirring across Wales…
HALLOWEEN is no longer just about one night of trick or treating.
Across Wales, October brings pumpkin patches and haunted castles, ghost stories and spooky steam trains, family trails, fright nights, fancy dress, live entertainment and plenty of opportunities to discover a darker side to some very familiar places.
And where better to celebrate Halloween than Wales?
This is a country of ancient castles, mysterious ruins, folklore, legends and landscapes which can take on a very different character as the nights draw in.

Throughout October, Ewegottalove will be searching North Wales, Mid Wales, South West Wales and South East Wales for some of the best Halloween (or should that be Hall-ewe-een!) events, attractions and activities.
Some will be major visitor attractions. Others may be something happening in a village hall, independent shop, pub, theatre, community centre or local high street.
So whether ewe are looking for somewhere to take the children, somewhere to pick a pumpkin, a genuinely frightening night out or simply something different to do during half-term, bookmark this page.
We will be adding to it throughout October.
Halloween Around Wales
North Wales
Castles, forests, steam railways and dramatic landscapes give North Wales an obvious head start when Halloween arrives.
Zip World Betws-y-Coed transforms its forest attractions for Ffear Fforest between 9 October and 1 November, with after-dark attractions aimed at older children and adults. Visit Wales describes cursed coaster rides, dark forest activities and an appropriately alarming collection of clowns.
There is plenty happening among North Wales’ historic castles too. Conwy Castle has child-friendly spooky tours on 26 and 27 October, exploring ghosts, medieval life and some of the less pleasant remedies of the Middle Ages.
Denbigh Castle stages a Halloween trail with crafts and face painting on 31 October, while Beaumaris Castle has its own spooky trail, witches, crafts and Halloween treats on the same day.
At Caernarfon Castle, visitors can tackle a Trick or Treat Trail over 31 October and 1 November.
And at Kinmel Bay, Visit Wales is listing an entire 31 Days of Halloween programme running from 2 October to 1 November.
Also watch out for: Halloween railway adventures, pumpkin events, local theatre, community parties and independent attractions across the region.

Mid Wales
Mid Wales may have fewer large cities, but its combination of dark skies, historic buildings, rural landscapes and independent attractions makes it particularly suited to autumn.
At Cantref Adventure Farm near Brecon, the Pumpkin Festival runs throughout October, with pumpkin-related family activities forming part of the attraction’s autumn programme.
Tretower Court and Castle has its Spooky Trail on 30 and 31 October, sending visitors in search of possessions lost by the Witch of Tretower.
There is Halloween activity further west too, with Strata Florida Abbey staging children’s activities during half-term, while the wider region gives us plenty of scope to seek out smaller community events and local Halloween celebrations.
And railways can become rather different places after dark. Visit Wales is highlighting Halloween trains including the Talyllyn Railway’s Steam & Scream, with evening journeys and a haunted Dolgoch Woods experience on 29 and 30 October.
Ewegottalove will be adding more Mid Wales events as they are announced.

South West Wales
South West Wales already has one of the biggest Halloween attractions in Wales this year.
Screamtime at Margam Country Park runs from 15 October to 1 November. Its kilometre-long immersive trail includes live actors and themed scare zones, with the main Screamtime experience aimed at ages 15+ and a lighter Spookytime option for younger visitors.
History provides some slightly gentler scares.
Kidwelly Castle runs a Halloween Trail from 26 October until 1 November, while Laugharne Castle has its own Halloween trail on 31 October.
We will also be looking across Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Neath Port Talbot for pumpkin picking, children’s events, live entertainment, Halloween parties and community celebrations.
This is also where we would particularly like to hear from smaller attractions and independent businesses which might otherwise be overlooked by the national event guides (email us at ewegottalove.online@gmail.com).

South East Wales
With Wales’ largest concentration of population, attractions, entertainment venues and nightlife, there is inevitably a huge amount happening across South East Wales.
Caerphilly Castle is embracing Halloween for nine days between 24 October and 1 November, with a children’s quest alongside changing activities including medieval medicine, crafts, bubbles and face painting.
Nearby Castell Coch has its Creepy Quest during half-term and special Halloween evening tours, while Chepstow Castle has events ranging from a ghost tour to pumpkin decorating and an evening of ghost stories.
At Caerleon Roman Baths, Monstrous Myths brings a Halloween dimension to Roman history, while Blaenavon Ironworks is drawing upon Welsh legends, folklore and ghost stories between 29 and 31 October.
Zip World Tower at Aberdare is taking Halloween in a decidedly more frightening direction, with its after-dark Terror Coaster, Cursed Climber and Fear Flyer experiences.
For something rather more traditional, Forage Farm near Cowbridge has its popular pick-your-own pumpkin experience throughout October.
And Fonmon Castle, near Barry, is again featuring its not-so-scary daytime Halloween activities, paranormal investigations and evening scare experiences.

Spooky Wales
Halloween may have become a global celebration, but Wales hardly needs to borrow its ghosts.
Our castles, abbeys, mines, manor houses and ancient landscapes have accumulated centuries of stories involving apparitions, strange happenings, witches, fairies and things which supposedly go bump in the Welsh night.
Throughout October Ewegottalove will be exploring some of them.
Did Ewe Know?
Halloween is not simply an imported American celebration. The first day of November traditionally marked the beginning of winter in the Welsh calendar, with the night before associated with customs, supernatural beliefs and predictions about the year ahead.
Calan Gaeaf [from the Welsh words calan (meaning the first day of the month) and gaeaf (winter)] shares roots with Celtic seasonal customs and the turning of the agricultural year. It represents a time when the veil between the physical world and the spirit realm is believed to be at its thinnest.
